QR Code Meet
A guest list, codes emailed to the people on it, and a scanner at the door.
How to use it
The app does two things. Four tabs make and read QR codes for everyday use. The fifth, Events, runs a door: a guest list, codes emailed to the people on it, and a scanner that checks them in.
QR Code Meet is not yet on the App Store. If you are testing it and something is wrong, please say so — that is what this stage is for.

Scan
Point the camera at any QR code. The result opens straight away — a link you can follow, a phone number you can call, a Wi-Fi network you can join, a contact you can save. What you scan is kept in History.
This tab reads ordinary QR codes. Checking guests in at an event happens inside the event itself, not here — see Checking people in.
Import
This is useful when somebody sends you a code by message and you are reading it on the same phone.
For a code you cannot point a camera at: one in a text message, or email, take a screenshot, save the image to your photos and then in the app tap Choose a photo and pick the picture of the QR code. It is read as if you had scanned it.
Generate
Make a QR code of your own. Choose what it should hold:
- URL — a web address.
- Text — words or numbers.
- Email — opens a new message to that address.
- Phone — starts a call to that number.
- Wi-Fi — network name and password, so a guest joins without typing. Leave the password empty for an open network.
- Contact — name, company, title, phone and email as a contact card. Blank fields are left out.
The code appears as you type. + Add your logo puts a picture in the middle of it. Save & Share QR Code saves it to your photos or hands it to any app that takes an image — Messages, Mail, a printer.
History
What you have scanned or made, newest first. Tap an entry to open it again or share it.
Events
This is the part that runs a door. It needs an account, because an event has a guest list and usually more than one person working it.
Signing in
Open the Events tab, type your email address, and tap Email me a sign-in code. Type the code from the email into the app and you are signed in. There is no password to choose or forget.
Who can do what
Every event has exactly one Manager — whoever created it. They can do everything, and they alone can delete the event, reopen it once it has ended, or hand it to somebody else.
Organizers run the event alongside the Manager: the guest list, invitations, the team, and ending the event.
Staff are the people at the door. They see the roster and check people in. Adding walk-ins and undoing a check-in are granted separately, so a greeter has exactly what they need and nothing more.
Creating an event
Tap + New Event. Give it a name, a date and a start time. Everything else is optional:
- End time — used in the calendar entry guests receive.
- Repeats — see Repeating events.
- Time zone — the venue's time zone, not your phone's. Set this for the time zone the event is in; it is what keeps a 6pm reception at 6pm for the people who will be attending it.
- Location and address — appears in the invitation and in the calendar entry.
- Description — anything guests should know.
Tap Create event and it appears in your list. To change any of it later, open the event and tap Edit beside its name.
Adding guests
Open the event and tap + Invitees. There are three ways to add invitees.
Add a Person
One at a time. First and last name, with their email address. You can add a phone number for identifying purposes. For small events, you can text people their QR code using your phone's text system. Company and job title are optional and appear on the downloaded record afterwards.
Add from Contacts
Pick people from your phone's address book. Anyone already on the guest list is marked, so you cannot add them twice by accident.
Import from a File
For a larger list. Choose an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file with a heading row. It needs columns for First Name, Last Name and Email. Phone, Company and Job Title are picked up as well when the sheet has them, and the headings can be worded however you like — Email, E-mail and Email Address all work. You may upload up to 1,000 invitees.
Nothing is added until you have seen a summary: how many people were found, what each column was taken to mean, and any rows that will be skipped and why. Check the column list — it is the one place a mismatched spreadsheet shows itself before it becomes a problem at a door.
Apple Numbers files cannot be read directly. In Numbers, tap the ⋯ button, then Export, then Excel, and choose that file instead.
Duplicates
Somebody already on the list is identified by their email address or phone number and left as they are — importing the same file twice should not add anybody a second time. Two different people who merely share a name but have different emails or phone numbers are treated as two people, because they usually are.
Removing somebody
Swipe their row to the left and tap Remove.
Sending invitations
For small events, you can text QR codes to your participants through your phone's text system. Add the invitee, tap and hold on their name, select Show their code and then share and select the way you would like to send them their QR code.
To email an invitation to one person — someone added late, or who lost their message — press and hold their name on the roster and choose Send their invitation.
When there are guests with email addresses who have not been written to, a button appears at the top of the event: Send 12 invitations, or however many are waiting. Tap it and each of them gets their own message containing:
- their entry code, shown in the message and attached as a picture they can save to their photos;
- a Can you come? button, which records their RSVP;
- an invite.ics attachment that adds the event to their calendar.
A code admits one person, once.
As answers come back, each guest's row shows Coming in green, Maybe in amber or Not coming in red, with a running count under the event name.
Adding staff to work the event
To allow staff to check attendees in at your event, staff have to have the app on their phone. Open the event and tap Team. There are two ways to invite staff to assist you.
Invite by email — tap Invite someone to help and enter their address, or + Invite from Contacts to pick them from your address book. The invitation appears in their app when they sign in with that address, and they join as soon as they accept. Nothing has to be sent or scanned.
A code to scan — useful for somebody standing in front of you. Create one and they scan it with their own phone, or tap Join an Event on their Events tab. You then approve them. The invitation lapses after 48 hours if nothing is done with it.
Once somebody has joined, the Team page is where you give them permission to add walk-ins or undo a check-in, make them an Organizer, or remove them. The Manager can also hand the whole event to somebody else from here — they have to accept your invite for it to work.
Checking in event participants
Open the event and tap Scan codes. Point the camera at a guest's code and they are checked in — you see their name, and whether they were already here.
If they arrive without their code, search for them on the roster and tap their name. That checks them in exactly as scanning would. Tap a checked-in person to undo it, if you have permission.
If they are not on the list at all, tap + Walk-in and take their details. Walk-ins are marked as such on the roster and in the record afterwards.
The count under the event name — 38 of 120 checked in — updates as people arrive, on every phone working the door as long as your phones have signal.
When there is no internet signal
Sometimes venues have bad signal. Open the event once while you still have a connection and the door keeps working without one: codes are still recognized, check-ins are saved on the phone, and everything sends itself when the signal comes back.
An amber bar shows how many are waiting. A check-in records the time the person actually arrived, not the time it reached us, so the record is correct.
Repeating events and reusable codes
An event can repeat every day, week, month or year, with an optional date to stop. Set it when you create the event, or turn it on later from Edit.
Each time is a separate event with its own guest list and its own record. The next one appears once the current one has started, and everybody on the list — and the team helping — comes with it. Nobody is checked in and no RSVP carries over, because last week says nothing about this week.
Invitees on a repeating event's guest list hold a specific code dedicated to them that works every time. They are emailed it once. Tap Reusable Codes on the event to see who holds one.
Turning a code off for a recurring event — for somebody who is no longer invited to the recurring event — stops it at every one of those events immediately, and takes them off the ones that have not happened yet. Events that have already happened keep their record exactly as it is. Letting somebody back in gives them a new code, so send them their invitation again.
After the event
Ending it
Open the event, tap Edit, then End this Event. Check-ins stop, the guest list is frozen, and the event moves to the Ended section of your list. Anything scanned before you ended it still arrives when a door phone reconnects. Only the Manager can reopen an ended event.
Downloading who came to the event
Open the event, tap Edit, then Download the Attendance Record. You get a spreadsheet you can send on or open in Excel or Numbers, with a row for every person:
- name, email, phone, company and job title;
- their RSVP;
- whether they attended, and when they were checked in, and by whom;
- whether they were a walk-in, and how they were added to the list;
- when they were added.
Times are in the time zone you selected for the event, not your phone's, so they match what people at the door would have read off a clock. You can download the record before ending the event as well — it is simply the list as it stands.
What happens to the details later
They stay with your account until you remove them. Nothing is deleted on a timer, so a list you use again — or an event that repeats, where everyone's code keeps working — is still there next time. Download the record whenever you like.
Deleting an event removes its guest list, everyone's codes and its attendance record. That cannot be undone.

Get in touch — a real person reads it. If something went wrong at a door, say which event and roughly when.
